Many years ago Lancashire was home to a large number of Whippet Racing Clubs where Miners & Millworkers enjoyed the sport in the 19th Century, sadly Kings Park is the last remaining Non Pedigree Whippet club in the North West. In October 2015 we relocated to Kings Park in Leigh but were based at Astley & Tyldesley Miners Welfare for 20 years. We are a family club promoting a family sport, responsible and forever ownership. Our members take the opportunity every Saturday to run their dogs on safe and secure grounds. Not only does the club provide an outlet and regular fitness / exercise for lots of dogs (some of which are from rescue) but it also offers a great opportunity for owners to meet like minded people. We have a wide variety of age ranges and mixed gender all carrying out vital roles within our club which includes a number of children, where weekly meetings can be enjoyed by all the family. The club is going from strength to strength and although primarily a Whippet Racing Club, we welcome any breed. The track itself is set alongside a Rugby Pitch, training ground of Leigh Miners and runs for a straight 240yds in total. The club has invested a considerable amount of time and expense on the track and are very proud of the high standard we have achieved in providing an extremely safe running surface. There are a lot of experienced owners on hand who will be happy to help any newcomers and answer any questions regarding any aspect of training or dog ownership. There are numerous Canine First Aiders in attendance at all meetings along with photographers to capture all the action. The club is also affiliated to the British Whippet Racing Association. |
